AIESEC History

What startet in 1948 as an organization for developping friendly relations, has developped itself up to today toward a global organization that is active in more than 100 countries
The idea behind AIESEC though has hadly changed during these 60 years. The cultural exchange is to the fore today same as back then.

Milestones in the History of AIESEC

1946
The initial founding father of AIESEC met for the first time two years before the organization was officially created.
1948
At the congress in Stockholm in 1949 AIESEC gains oficially its present identity.
1949
There were 89 students already participating in the exchange program. In the following years AIESEC is growing extremely fast. More and more countries are joining the organization and soon it is being represented on each continent.
1951
Switzerland is the first country to join AIESEC right after the initial founding nations.
1960
The number of members is rapidly growing and reaches 2467 active AIESEC members.
1961
The first seminars to welcome incomming interns are founded in Germany. The success is so overwhelming, that seminars like these are established all over the world.
1970
The number of active members is 4232 !
1976
An International Theme Programme was established that focused all international, regional, and local seminars on specific topics. This idea continued and grew through various stages.
Themes like International Trade, Management Education, Sustainable development, Entrepreneurship and Corporate Responsability were discussed at local, national and global seminars.
1990
The exchange program emerges to one of the main issues of AIESEC and is being developed onwards.
1997
In order to simplify the andministration, an online platform is introduced that will be updated in 2001.
2007
A new and substantial online platform for exchange and information is set up.
today
Today, AIESEC has become an international platform for young people, to discover and develop their potential. There are currently 23 000 active memers in AIESEC.
